Dumbling & Dragon Boat Festival 2010


Hey did you all know why Chinese celebrate Dragon Boat and Dumbling Festival? Here are the story why Chinese is celebrate this festival every year.

It commemora
tes the patriotism of Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and statesman who was accused of treason and banished. It was believed that on this day in 278BC, the grief-stricken exile drowned himself in the Miluo River after catching wind of the Qin troops conquering his homeland, Chu.

Upon hearing this, people threw rice dumplings into the river, hoping that the sea creatures would feast on the food instead of Qu’s body.Some fishermen also searched for him on boats hastily but he was never found.

This tragedy was said to be the beginning of the tradition of having rice dumplings and dragon boat races during the Duanwu Festival.
